Ten years old and still going and still growing, thanks to all the support we get in running Hand in Hand Trust. Many people who were supporting us in the beginning are still doing so, some are more recent in joining us. Some give larger donations, some smaller but all are generous and all is very much appreciated.
This appreciation is no more obvious than with the children`s parents in Peru who see their children developing with hope and stimulation.
It has been a good ten years with much progress and only a few stumbling blocks – but that prevents us from becoming too presumptuous.
The Hand in Hand Trust is as successful as our supporters permit – we, the trustees try to make sure that everything is correct for the children , the organisation and the development.
Thank you so very much.

On the 10th. November there was a celebration in Lima at the Las Magnolias nursery, the staff and parents wanted to do this and it was a great time. It was also a time of reunion when children who were in the nursery in 1991 came back to celebrate. Invitations went out to all children and parents from the past. All was prepared as a secret to me, Josie but I had been told that everyone was preparing an event--including groups of parents and some of the children were going to sing and act "the Music man". It was a lovely occasion. Clare was in Peru for the celebrations, a trustee from the beginning.

It is now time to tell you about the work of the present and how it is continuing.
The two new nurseries in the Jungle are well and each have 30 children with a huge waiting list for if and when we can afford to open more or even employ more staff. It always takes a few months for parents to trust that foreigners (me)

are not going to steal their babies. I have to keep a low profile about my adoption of children else
they immediately think that I wish to adopt theirs. Thankfully my Peruvian staff work so well with the parents that they soon lose their fears.
Some of the parents can afford to give us 20p (1 sol) per week whilst others bring us gifts of bananas or fish from the river. The diet and food here is so different to Lima or Arequipa but we are maintaining a well balanced diet for the children. Many children continue to drink breast milk whilst also eating normally. This sounds strange but I know that it is the only source of milk that is available -- and the mothers are happy to continue feeding 2 or sometimes 3 babies and children! Now they know that the nurseries make this unnecessary.

The 21st of September is the first day of Spring in Peru and is celebrated by all the children. Each of our nurseries chose Prince and Princess of Spring who wore formal suits for the princes and white dresses and crowns for the princesses, and all the rest of the children were in some sort of fancy dress and they processed around the district. Watching a 3 year old Prince dressed in a black suit and white shirt and red tie escorting a 2 year old princess is an amazing sight. Some of the children have to have a ride in a decorated "rickshaw".

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A PEACEFUL NEW YEAR
